Kartarted her own practice in 1989 as Holbert·Hollander Architects (Chicago, IL) and 1991 reorganized as Hollander Architects. Prior to 1989, Karen spent six years working for a variety of architectural design firms in Chicago and Philadelphia.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois. Karen is licensed in the State of Illinois and Wisconsin and is an NCARB certified Architect, which allows licensure in any state.
